So last Sunday my sister arrived in Florida for a week-long vacation.
She currently lives in Connecticut, works in NYC designing women’s shoes for a very large and well-known company, and was in dire need of a break from her hectic schedule. She told me she wanted to do absolutely nothing but relax while she was here in the Sunshine State, and so I made it my mission to ensure that she had the most relaxing and stress-free vacation ever.
We pretty much did nothing but eat, drink, and lounge at the beach all week, and although I probably gained ten pounds from all of the eating, and the drinking, and the not-working-out that took place during her stay…it was totally worth it because my mission of showing my sister a relaxing, stress-free vacation was accomplished and then some:
We rented a cute little condo on Bradenton Beach which was about 100 steps from the Gulf of Mexico and just a hop, skip, and a jump from one of my very favorite beaches in Florida on Longboat Key. The weather was absolutely perfect the entire time we were there, and the water in the Gulf (while still a bit on the chilly side) was sparkly green and gorgeous as always…
I got up bright and early every morning to watch the sunrise from the dock near our condo, and then drove across the bridge to Longboat Key to collect shells on my favorite beach while my sister stayed back at the condo catching up on her beauty sleep. When I arrived at the beach the first morning, I noticed that there were two Fox 13 news vans parked near the entrance and it didn’t take me long to find out what they were there for.
Unfortunately some loser(s) thought it would be a good idea to paint Bernie Sanders graffiti all over the beautiful driftwood that adorns the beach on the island, and the reporters were there to interview beachgoers to see how they felt about it. I was more than happy to give my two cents to one of the reporters (my two cents, btw, is that whoever did it is an asshole who I’d like to punch in the face for desecrating such a beautiful area).
I don’t watch the news so I’ve no idea if my interview was shown on tv or not, but it was really windy out that morning and my hair looked like I’d just stuck my finger into a light socket so I’m kinda hoping that it wasn’t.
Anyway- aside from the newly graffitied “Feel the Bern” trees, the beach was gorgeous that morning and I was able to snap a few photos before heading back to the condo to whip up a batch of pineapple mimosas because it was probably five o’clock somewhere.
Gorgeous beach, isn’t it?
I highly recommend checking it out if you get the chance- it’s definitely worth the trip!
So anyway, that’s what I’ve been up to the last week…hanging out with my sis, drinking one too many mimosas and eating far too many grouper sandwiches.
I’m back in St. Pete now finishing up a work project that I’ve been procrastinating doing for several months, and as soon as that’s finished I’m heading to South Florida to test out some new camera equipment that should be arriving any second now and that I absolutely can not wait to get my hands on!
Stay tuned…more to come soon!
