Longboat Key Getaway

So last Sunday my sister arrived in Florida for a week-long vacation.

She currently lives in Connecticut, works in NYC designing women’s shoes for a very large and well-known company, and was in dire need of a break from her hectic schedule. She told me she wanted to do absolutely nothing but relax while she was here in the Sunshine State, and so I made it my mission to ensure that she had the most relaxing and stress-free vacation ever.

We pretty much did nothing but eat, drink, and lounge at the beach all week, and although I probably gained ten pounds from all of the eating, and the drinking, and the not-working-out that took place during her stay…it was totally worth it because my mission of showing my sister a relaxing, stress-free vacation was accomplished and then some:

Rudy and my friend Brett drove down to hang with us for the day. I’ve no idea who the two photobombers in the background are, however. ๐Ÿ™‚

We rented a cute little condo on Bradenton Beach which was about 100 steps from the Gulf of Mexico and just a hop, skip, and a jump from one of my very favoriteย beaches in Florida on Longboat Key. The weather was absolutely perfect the entire time we were there, and the water in the Gulf (while still a bit on the chilly side) was sparkly green and gorgeous as always…

I got up bright and early every morning to watch the sunrise from the dock near our condo, and then drove across the bridge to Longboat Key to collect shells on my favorite beach while my sister stayed back at the condo catching up on her beauty sleep. When I arrived at the beach the first morning, I noticed that there were two Fox 13 news vans parked near the entrance and it didn’t take me long to find out what they were there for.

Unfortunately some loser(s) thought it would be a good idea to paint Bernie Sanders graffiti all over the beautiful driftwood that adorns the beach on the island, and the reporters were there to interview beachgoers to see how they felt about it. I was more than happy to give my two cents to one of the reporters (my two cents, btw, is that whoever did it is an asshole who I’d like to punch in the face for desecrating such a beautiful area).

I don’t watch the news so I’ve no idea if my interview was shown on tv or not, but it was really windy out that morning and my hair looked like I’d just stuck my finger into a light socket so I’m kinda hoping that it wasn’t.

Anyway- aside from the newly graffitied “Feel the Bern” trees, the beach was gorgeous that morning and I was able to snap a few photos before heading back to the condo to whip up a batch of pineapple mimosas because it was probably five o’clock somewhere.

Gorgeous beach, isn’t it?

I highly recommend checking it out if you get the chance- it’s definitely worth the trip!

So anyway, that’s what I’ve been up to the last week…hanging out with my sis, drinking one too many mimosas and eating far too many grouper sandwiches.

I’m back in St. Pete now finishing up a work project that I’ve been procrastinating doing for several months, and as soon as that’s finished I’m heading to South Florida to test out some new camera equipment that should be arriving any second now and that I absolutely can not wait to get my hands on!

Stay tuned…more to come soon!

XOXO

Thanks so much, Alex- Longboat is definitely one of the most beautiful places I’ve been to in Florida. I just love it there.

I’d love to meet up with you guys when you’re here if I’m in town. Can you message me the dates so I can look on my calendar? If I’m out of town I’d be happy to suggest some places to eat and beaches to visit while you’re here!

I saw a spot on the news about the Bernie grafiti and the last I heard was that they had to chainsaw some of the pieces of wood and take them away because they are trying to clean up that area.

Really sad because that is such a cool beach.

Thanks for sharing your photos and adventures with us. Your posts always a pleasure to read.

Yeah I was really bummed when I got there and saw all of it.
I hope they didn’t cut up too much of the driftwood- it was so pretty. ๐Ÿ™

Yes- it is soooo easy to set up (I can do it by myself in under five minutes)! It’ also very lightweight and really easy to carry even if you have to go a long way. I seriously love it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Cabana looks so cool! How’s it hold up in windy conditions?

Really well, actually. There are air vents at the top, so even when it’s really windy out, it stays put. I just love it and it’s so easy to set up, too!

      Hi Louisa,

The drive from St. Pete to Longboat is about an hour, depending on traffic. We try to get there early because it gets pretty congested later in the day. Either way, it’s definitely worth the drive!

Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting- I appreciate your kind words!
